Letting go of the ‘stuck’ feelings
We all make mistakes. Some large. Some small. In the aftermath of all mistakes we feel a little foolish, a little shameful and maybe a lot guilty. We strive to understand what made us take a certain action or say a misplaced word.
In looking, as we should, for the lessons in every situation, we build an awareness around our wrong doings. We look at the past, learn and use it to move forward into the future.
But what happens when we are the recipient of the mistake? When the action or word has been charged against us. Where is the lesson then?
This usually lies in forgiveness. Letting go. And becoming unstuck from the pain that holds you tight in its grip.
“To err is human, to forgive divine” were the words of 18th century poet, Alexander Pope.

Forgiveness is the key to a greater understanding of ourselves and our soul. It is not a case of turning the other cheek. It is more a case of sitting in understanding of the other person and their challenges.
Here, we forgive them those actions and words that hurt us. Not for them. But for us. In this instance forgiveness brings a healing energy to our soul. A soothing calmness.
Forgiveness also allows us to free ourselves from the inevitable anger that builds during and after a greivance. This anger will only hurt us and cripple us beneath its weight. Forgiveness releases this. Frees us and allows us to move on.
In looking at forgiveness, it would be remiss not to look at forgiving the self. Forgiveness for that foolishness, shame and guilt. Allowing ourselves to walk forward, embracing a new moment, a new day, a new life.
We all make mistakes. The key is to not bury ourselves in the mire of angst that is often associated with these challenges. Let it go. Become unstuck. Move forward.
Remember, to err is human, but to forgive is divine.
